JMR Consultants undertakes senior level Executive
and Non Executive recruitment on behalf of a range of organisations
in the not-for-profit and voluntary sectors. We specialise
in
For large-scale, one-off projects or exercises we also offer
Search
Search works best in cases where there is a limited but identifiable
pool of appropriately qualified candidates for a senior level
position. The process involves extensive, well-directed research
and targeted networking to identify candidates, gauge the
levels of qualification and interest and communicate the opportunity.
Search may also be useful where sensitivity is an issue or
a high degree of discretion is required. |
 |
 |
 |
Selection
Advertising a position communicates the opportunity to a wider
- if less closely-defined - audience. Selection brings with
it the benefits of openness and transparency, which may be
a requirement, and provides a time scale for a recruitment
exercise which might otherwise be more open-ended. |
 |
 |
 |
Search & Selection
By employing both Search and Selection the consultant can
combine the advantages of each channel when undertaking senior
level assignments. The use of both Search and Selection to
identify candidates is particularly useful for not-for-profit
organisations where both the best outcome and an accountable
process are important. |
 |
 |
 |
Tactical Recruitment Services
In addition to senior level recruitment, JMR Consultants is
also able to offer tactical recruitment services to help conduct
large-scale recruitment projects which might otherwise stretch
the in-house capacity of the HR Department. |

Note to Candidates
As a recruitment consultancy, our clients are the organisations
that retain us to recruit on their behalf. (In this respect
a recruitment consultancy differs from a recruitment agency
that works on behalf of its candidates.) However, we are always
more than pleased to receive CVs from suitably qualified individuals
who are, or will be, seeking senior level appointments in
the not-profit sector. |

We guarantee to bring to each assignment that
we undertake:
- A personal commitment
- A long-term perspective
- A client-led approach
- A bespoke solution
- A value-for-money fee structure
A personal commitment
We believe that a recruitment consultancy is only as good
as the consultants who work on an assignment, and we believe
that a client must always receive the best possible service
we can provide. It is therefore we, the principals, who are
the consultants, and it is we who manage each assignment from
start to finish. You can be confident that we will remain
personally committed and actively involved throughout the
life of each assignment - and beyond.
A long-term perspective
Our aim is to establish long-term relationships with the people
and the organisations who we work with. This informs our whole
approach to recruitment. We devote as much time as possible
to understanding our clients: their objectives, priorities,
philosophy, culture, personalities and 'chemistry'. This means
we are able to establish which candidates are most likely
to fit best within the organisations we work for; it also
means that we are in a position to anticipate our clients'
future needs and not simply meet them as and when they arise.
A client-led approach
We commit ourselves thoroughly to each assignment but we are
not 'assignment-led'. Our priority always remains the client.
We see each assignment within the context of the organisation
as a whole. We will never be tempted to propose expedient,
one-off solutions that will not stand the test of time. We
involve and consult with the client at every stage, and we
are - and remain - client-led throughout the recruitment process.
A bespoke solution
We do not come to you with all the answers! We will not provide
'off-the-peg' solutions. We have a wealth of experience and
a range of methodologies available to us but we come to each
assignment afresh. Our guiding principle is First we listen!
We believe that only by asking well-directed questions and
helping the client to clarify the answers can we shape a successful
recruitment campaign and provide you with the solution you
need.
A value-for-money fee structure
We provide a professional service and we charge professional
fees. However, our flexible approach and low overheads mean
that our fees are generally very competitive. We subscribe
to the Nolan principle of proportionality i.e. that the cost
of recruitment should be in proportion to the seniority and
importance of the position being recruited. We will always
be happy to advise clients which routes or fee structures
are likely to be most appropriate when recruiting for a particular
position. (This can be especially important when making Non
Executive Director appointments where the position may be
pro bono or remuneration may be modest.)
The client
We never forget that that it is you, the client, who makes
the appointment. Our mission is to do everything in our power
to assist you. We not only work for you; we work with you.
When you have made the right appointment, our job is done.
However, we keep in touch to ensure you remain pleased with
the outcome and to keep abreast of any developments within
your organisation - not least because we want to be able to
help you with your next appointment!
The consultants
We are a successful organisation with an excellent track record.
We have a thorough understanding of not-for-profit organisations
and their values. We have a personal commitment to the sector,
our clients and our assignments. We hope very much to have
the opportunity to meet you and work with you in the future. |

"RPS Rainer needed to
recruit a new Chair of Trustees. Of course we wanted everything
- someone who understood our work, who was well connected
in the business world and who was a name to be reckoned with.
Given our low profile this was a tall order - but JMR Consultants
succeeded. The service was everything I could ask for: efficient,
determined, professional and personal. Worth every penny!
JMR Consultants were recommended to me personally and I will
certainly be passing on the recommendation." |

"ECITB (the Engineering
Construction Industry Training Board) is going through a period
of significant organisational and cultural change and we were
faced with the need to recruit two senior management positions
at the same time. ECITB is a small organisation and we were
not able to justify tying up our resources in the early stages
of the exercise. I hadn't used a recruitment consultancy before,
preferring to do it myself. However, I felt assured that JMR
Consultants would be competent as both the principal consultants
have extensive experience in recruitment and in using tools
that I was keen for ECITB to adopt in this campaign, but hadn't
had sufficient experience of using myself.
I was impressed by the way that JMR Consultants quickly grasped
the nature of the jobs given that we were redefining the roles
and the organisational culture at the same time. Jocelyn was
receptive to what the Directors and I were looking for. I
felt in control of the process as plans were devised together
and Jocelyn kept in touch with me at all key points. Her expertise
in conducting the first filter and undertaking all the administration
definitely saved us a lot of time. JMR Consultants was quietly
efficient and effective and I always felt that I was an important
client although I realise that I was one of many." |

"Stonham Housing Association
has used JMR Consultants for five years to successfully recruit
two Chairs plus three rounds of Board Members. Our most recent
assignments were very exacting. We needed high calibre individuals
who would help us in our efforts to drive the business forward
at a time of significant environmental change for the supported
housing sector as a whole. Through JMR Consultants we were
able to identify suitable candidates and make the right appointments.
I have worked closely with Jocelyn Ridley on our assignments
and have found her to be conscientious, thorough and reliable.
JMR Consultants is an extremely professional organisation.
We have always received a very high quality, personal service
which has delivered the best results. I will certainly be
recommending that we use JMR Consultants for the foreseeable
the future." |

"After a period of extensive
change, hact introduced a new senior management team structure.
We had the opportunity to recruit all three new posts as a
team. With three senior posts vacant at the same time this
was an opportunity that was both daunting and exciting. We
needed to proceed with the recruitment exercise as quickly
as possible, but we also needed support to ensure that the
task was undertaken efficiently and effectively. JMR Consultants
was recommended to me by Clare Tickell of Stonham Housing
Association.
Jocelyn Ridley spent time ensuring that she understood hact's
requirements and the sort of skills, expertise and types of
people we needed. She made me feel safe and supported, and
she was happy to involve staff in the process in a creative
way. She clearly made candidates feel comfortable so that
they were able to give of their best.
One of the posts was not filled in the first round of recruitment
and Jocelyn helped us to identify how we could change the
job title, description and salary to attract the right person.
With the third member of the SMT about to be appointed, hact
is poised to embark on a new and exciting phase as a catalyst
for change in the housing sector. JMR Consultants has clearly
played a key role in getting us this far." |

"The Society wanted to
recruit a female Non Executive Director to replace a long-standing
director soon to retire from the Board. JMR Consultants, who
had been involved in the recruitment of two of the present
Board, was invited to find a suitable individual to meet a
very demanding specification. This was not an easy assignment
but JMR Consultants was able to supply a good short-list of
candidates for the Society's Nominations and Governance Committee
to meet. The service provided by JMR Consultants was professional
and efficient, and demonstrated the necessary determination
to fulfil a difficult brief. I would certainly recommend them
to others seeking high quality directors." |

CORGI (Council for Registered
Gas Installers) has used Jocelyn Ridley as a recruitment consultant
for more than seven years to successfully recruit both non-executive
and executive directors including the Chair, the CEO and Finance
Director positions, two rounds of Board Members and our independent
panel members. We have also used JMR Consultants on our Director
Development programme.
JMR Consultants has always worked closely with us and supported
us throughout our recruitment exercises. As a result, on every
occasion we have been able to identify suitable candidates
and make the right appointments. Over the last seven years,
Jocelyn and her colleagues have got to know our organisation
very well and a close working relationship has been developed.
They have a good insight into CORGI as an organisation, our
values and our culture and this is reflected in their approach
to our assignments which is both personal and professional,
of consistently high quality, thorough and conscientious.
